| | | | Gold Card 500 for $10K $10,000 up for grabs in the Gold Card 500!
Sorry folks, those of you who are on the forum are a little late to the party, but there's still time to grab some cash if you're quick about it.
Check out the details here: http://cakepoker.com/Promotions/GoldCard500.aspx
Basically, the person who just took first was sitting at a $5/$10 FL and he got a friggen ACE of CLUBS for 400 miles! Already had like 57 when it happened and then just kept motoring across the finish line.
The next big prizes are still up for grabs.
Glad to see you all back, btw. =)

| | | | Thanks for the chance at more bonus money.
To bad that those of us who saw it on Cake when it started didn't realize that we didn't stand a chance unless we were going to play at the $5/$10 table.
Those people playing on that table are getting a gold card about every 7-11 hands. Those of us playing the other tables are lucky to see a gold card every 50 hands.
Thanks for the game though. It was a good idea even though it was to rich for the majority of THF players.

| | | | Hi NBK,
I'm responsible for both the Gold Cards and this race (plus all the new promos that will follow). I'm completely open to ideas if you or anyone has any for promotions that use the Gold Cards.
The underlying idea behind the GC is that of like buying a lottery ticket. Only much more fun, because you can turn that ticket in multiple ways or hang on to it and wait for a better offer. However, to dole them out had to be even across the board.
If we'd done it time-based (for every x raked hands), then only our smallest of tables would be populated if people we hunting for cards.
What we saw happen was a player got an ace and they immediately upped their game to the big table. They invested a few hundred more, sat at the $5/$10 and completed the race. That was the hope of this promotion, that any player might find themselves with a big card and then make a profitable dash for the finish line.
No doubts, the odds aren't stellar that everyone will get that lucky. And folks seeing a GC every 6-7 hands will of course get more of a shot at it.
Hypothetically speaking, if we did this race again only for two limits, .10/20 and .25/.50 NL (meaning only Gold Cards earned at these tables would count towards the race), what incentive would anyone have to hit the higher limit games? Also, when someone else starts playing 2-3 tables and plays for 12 hours a day on .25/.50, won't that just as easily upset those who wanted a shot but can't put in the time?
Now, since this was our first race, we've learned a few things and are going to alter the race for the next time we run it. If enough people give me tweaks to make the race better, I'll make sure they get in. This is supposed to be a fun promo, but it should promote every level of play at Cake to be fair.
Doug

In fact, we designed the GC500 to be set up for private as well (we just need a few days to get a website up for it).
We can do a X mile race, do differnent payouts, etc.
Suggestions?

| | | | I understand that you're trying to get more players playing higher levels. That results in more rake for the site and a lot faster. I was just pointing out that some people started playing less once they realized that they didn't stand a chance at the top ten.
I think that Cake is starting to see more new players with all of the fun extras that they're adding. Keep up the good work.

| | | | I think a private race would be awesome. That would even out the field for us a little. Ive been playing at cake a little lately, and I really like it. Even though it hates me some days......but, if we had a private race Id definitely play a little more. | |

I tried to get some gold cards early on, and when I realized it was based upon the rake / money going into the pot I stopped worrying about it. I was trying to play just to get the gold card and was getting frustrated when there would be one card every 30-45 minutes, and I wasn't the recipient.
Doug -- keep up the good service and attention to the THF'ers, and I think you'll have some good, ongoing patronage from us. I've got money in just 4 sites, and Cake is one of them. | |

There's a Gold Card feature coming in the future which everyone with cards from day one on that will make everyone stand up and take notice. But, baby steps. All in good time. =)
