Default tough question

Ok heres the situation

player 1 hand 4h5h

player 2 Hand 5s 10h

Board 5d6s7d8d9s

Who would win this hand. My uncle says if the board flops a strait its a split pot no matter whats in your hand. I would have to disagree as its ruled by your best 5 card hand. Whos right?

Not a tough question at all. Player one has a straight 5 to 9, player two has a straight 6-10. Player 2 has the better hand and wins the pot.

your right - its the best 5 cards

player two would win this hand with the higher straight

one thing to remember is that in this hand someone who had two diamonds would have won the hand with a flush

There actually is a tough question here. And ironicly it is the same question, "who will win the hand?"

If this is no limit hold em, who wins this hand? If its played to the river, player two will win, but will they get to the river.

Most players slow play a monster like flopping a straight, so player one might give player two a free card after the flop. On the turn, there are 3 diamonds on the board and a four to a straight, so player one might be afraid of the diamonds and straight, and give player two another card. Here comes the river and player two is going to win the hand, unless he folds fearing a flush which i doubt he will.

Now if player one doesnt slow play, he can win, but the only possible way i can see player one coming out on top in this hand is a heavy bet on the turn. It may be dangerous, but at least he knows where he stands if his opponent calls or even raises him. People slowplay when they get a monster, especially after a dry run of cards, so a flop bet even though would probobly win him the hand, does not look like an out.

This is why slow playing can be dangerous, especially if there are two suited cards on the flop. Even though they may not have the flush, you will fear it if the 3rd card comes out and may give them a free card to beat you.

Nothing better than taking a question with a relatively simple answer and mucking it all up with the alot of complicated "if this and if that" poker talk. Well done!

The only reason you'd split a flopped straight (5,6,7,8,9) is if neither of you had a 10. Say you had J/J and player 2 had AA , BOTH best 5 card hands would be the board, and you'd split.

If someone is holding the 10 with that board, then the 10-high straight wins.

It's the best 5 (2 in the hole, 3 on the board)

That last bit is wrong my friend. It's the best five on the board regardless if any are in the hole or not.
