Default Buying Chips

I’m in the market to buy a set of chips but before I decide which ones I want, I need to figure out how many I’m going to need and what denominations on the chips work best or if I even need denominations at all.

My first set of questions are - Does having denominations on the chips make the game more fun to play? Or should I just go with plain chips? Also, what 5 denominations work best for a game of Texas Holdem? What is the norm? In the games we play the blinds double every half hour.

Second questions – How many chips am I going to need? My friends and I have been playing Texas Holdem and we usually have 7 to 10 guys playing, but with how popular it is I can see there being over 12 on some nights. The cost is $20 to get in with unlimited buy-ins for the first hour or hour and a half, depending on the game. There are usually 1 or 2 people who will end up buying back in. We play with 5 denominations, either we play with .25 .50 1.00 5.00 10.00 or $25 $50 $100 $500 $1000. So, how many am I going to need, 500 or 1000?

Any help would be much appreciated.

poker chips are so cheap now id always reccomend paying that tiny bit extra and getting a 500 chip set instead of 300.

i think having the value on chips helps with newbies and guys you havent played with before. If your playing with the same guys every week its never gonna be an issue. I got a 500 chip set over a year ago and all of the lower valued chips have lost the gold writing which states their value. However, everyone knows that the black chips are 100 etc

with regards to having 500 or 1000 chips. Its irrelevant. You just need to set chip count and the blinds according to what you set each chip

if you have any questions though just ask
