Default 600-1200 sb-bb's

Hey, guys i've been working on playing tighter and i've been doing way better in tournaments, always getting up to top 200 and under.. But I seem to be lacking of something.. I kinda only play the good hands at that part of game where the bids are around 300-600 to 600-1200, and I seem to only get few hands and if I do its normaly not good flops and then I get low stacked and am forced to go all in the high 100-200k just flush me down.

If anyone would have any tips please post them would be very helpfull for me and other players.Thanks.

It sounds like you're just limping in with your strong hands, and then check/folding when you miss the flop. At this stage in the tournament I almost never limp in, I always like to try to bring it in for a raise if I'm going to play a hand. 2.5X the big blind should be sufficient at this stage of the tournament. If you get below 10 big blinds or so, you should be looking to either push or fold preflop. Never limp.

have to agree with Gordy 100%, at those blinds you will very seldome get callers when you are betting 2,400 chips and up and you should be happy just taking the blinds down, when they do call you...then fine, you have a game started with the same advantages and disadvantages that you have...that should solve your problem.

I am assuming your talking a MTT (Multi-table tournament) here?
I agree with Gordy. You can not try to limp in with hands when the blinds get this steep. Play only solid hands and never limp.

I often find myself setting and not playing but 2-3 hands up till the blinds get to at least 200/400. Throughout the tournaments I will play hands that fall into the top 10 catagory. Play them strong and powerful too. Playing them requires a bet or raise of 3-4xBB. If we are talking very early with blinds like 20/40 then I suggest 5-7xBB to get some attention. The idea with premium hands is to get other players away from the draw.

The only hand I will limp in with is PP. PP I will limp if in early position. If I am in late position or the sb or BB I will come back over the top with a re-raise unless someone has went too high in the betting. If I catch my set on the flop then I play power poker. If not I tend to back way off and will often fold on the next round of betting. The idea here is to not over use your chips to try to catch a miracle card. Too often you will find they do not come.

Late in the tournament is when you can lessen your opening requirements. Hands that you wouldn't normally play can be good hands. AX (where X = mid value card) and Ax (where x = low value or rag card) are often playable late in tournaments in the right position.

Good luck and I hope some of this advice helps.

I disagree with your limping with PPs, late in the tourney.

Late in a MTT, big stacks are often raising with Ax to Jx, sometimes with nothing, just to scare the small stacks off. If im lower than average at this stage I will push all in with ANY PP. Mostly if you get a caller, he will be on a draw and your pr will hold up more often than not. 2s.3s and 4s are tough, but still pushable. I generally will ALWAYS push in with a PP is no one raises in front of me first. This play at first action is iffy. I sometimes fold them here or push, never limp. Reason is, if you limp, you have a very low chance to hit your set on the flop. So most of the time, if you dont catch it, you will think your hand is weak, when its not really, and be reluctant to keep raising. If you started the raising, continue raising into it even if you dont catch the set. You have to keep posturing that you have the best hand. Pushing preflop makes folks make a desicion early, do or die, and most of the time only the face draws with chips to spare will call- often no one will.

Just two different people's way of playing PP. I am found more times then not when pushing a PP of less then the highest cards, your more likely to get beat by an over pair. PP hands if played right though can be a big chip getter. Play them wrong though and you will see your tournament life ended.
