Finishing a tournament out

Lately no matter how hard i try i just cant seem to get in the money in sit n gos and also in regular tournaments. Some how some way i seem to waste my chips away. Does anyone have any advice on when the blinds are way up there what hands to play. Anything will help im sick of placing 1 out of the money. Thank you.

Play the hands youll go all in with if pushed....use your position to your advantage.Theres nothing wrong with folding bad cards even in the blind.If you call that raise when youre in the blind and then fold ....all you are doing is spending the chips you couldve used for you next blinds.Or even worse catch a piece of it and spend money on a hand you would normally fold(I did that yesterday

Every table is different thats just where I start from.
Its not who wins the most hands or knocks the most people out ,its who is there at the end that counts.
If someone else does the diry work its all the same,youll just get them later when your cards are more playable.

You need to play strong hands strong. Also be conscience of your position and use it to your advantage (like Xtra said). As the game wears on, there is no shame in stealing the blinds. Don't call hands just to see the flop. This is the best way to lose your stack. If you want to play a hand, you need to raise. If you are really short, you have to go all in.

I was down to 450 chips in a SNG last night, with a full table left and worked my way back to win it. It takes patience and getting a good feel for the table. If you are frustrated with your recent finishes, you may want to take a break. The frustration can make you play hands you should lay down and also make some calls that should be thought out more. I have been there and have wasted my entire bankroll by continuing to play mad.

Xtra has the right idea definately. I never play a hand in which that if I were raised I would not re-raise or slowplay with a call. This increases your odds (generally) and helps you stay away from 'wasting' your chips.

Razor, I am planning on ordering both volumes of the Dan Harrington NL books (I have heard good things). Have you read volume 1? If so, how was it?

all good advise you can also take advantage of position ie button raises but only play hands you will call a reraise with.and in the later stages of tornys blind stealing is a major option ok sometimes it goes wrong but you will take more chips in than you lose

it is important to remember that just because you are chip leader (if you are chip leader) it doesnt mean other players will act in any particular way against you. Many a chip leader is able to bully his way into an even better position but many a chip leader finds that he is being given almost no respect and bluffs, aggressive plays that "should" work are not working. As the table is getting short stacked READ THE TABLE. Generally dont bet huge on blind steals UNLESS people are folding all ins consistently. Towards the end of a tourney if in doubt fold. Generally your decisionmaking will not always be at its sharpest - go easy on your brain and let the others make the tough bets/folds/calls.

If you have the mindset of never making the money then play 1$ tourneys till the mindset goes or even freerolls because that mindset can be very bad for your bankroll.

If the blinds are getting high compared to your stack then you should consider betting big preflop or folding (with the odd flat call in what look like being 3 way or more pots). There is no point putting yourself in the position where with a9 flopping 873 you need to call or fold something that calling would put you all in at not much cost to your opponent. Much better to go all in preflop call minimum or just fold and hands like a9 are for late position play only (or when c. 4 players left) otherwise you would be just as well playing 96 etc.

Beyond that if you feel your play is slipping and the blinds are not too high take a break. 5 min of blinds is better than making a bad decision.
