As Crapshoot stated, the outs remain the same, but the odds will change. For example the odds of you catching one of the fours to make trips are greater with two cards to come than they are with only the river left. And so you know, with a pocket pair you are only about 19% to hit your set. If you don't hit it on the flop the odds are much lower and if you don't feel you have the best hand you should fold (unless you are playing me, you should go all in and give me your money

).
As for finishing position. If you place in the money that is a good finish. Whether it be play money or real money. Your main goal in any game is to win. If you play well and get to the money and bust out on a solid play, there is no shame in it. The two worst places to finish are dead last and on the bubble (1 out of the money). When you increase your level of play there is a transition period. Play money is very loose compared to real money. At the higher levels of play money, the play becomes more realistic, much like the lower limits of real money. Every poker player will hit a unlucky streak and will have swings in their bankroll, but if you can play consistent enough to keep your bankroll level or above level, then you are playing good.
Always keep in mind that while play money is good to learn the basics of the game, until you play for real you will not know how good your skills are. With play money you have nothing to lose except pride.
