| | | | bankroll how much do you think is good for a beginner like myself to put in my first bankroll for? | |

| | | | it really depends on how much you can afford
dont deposit any cash you cant afford to lose
if your just starting i think $50-$100 is an ok bankroll to start with. I did a guide on how i build my bankroll - it can be found here (Fonzies personal guide to build your own bankroll)

| | | | Ya i agree with you post and your post from a long time ago, but the whole problem now a days is that the MIN deposit on all poker sites is $50. SO u have to put atleast $50. I feel that isnt right but hey, i just play the game ant dont make the rules. | |

| | | | I agree, I would definitely deposit no more than $50 on a site, even if it is the minimum. When I first started playing for money online, I wasn't ready for the slightly higher quality of play. I was lucky where I never deposited any of my own money (a friend sent me $3 on Pokerstars). I was doing quite well for a while, building my $3 into over $120. But then I got in over my head, and my account now sits at 5 cents, and until I get some extra cash I am stuck in freeroll hell. My advice to a beginner is to make sure that you can consistantly win money before making a financial investment in online poker, and then play it safe when it comes to choosing limits and buy-ins. | |

| | | | I'm planning on making my first deposit pretty soon as well. I figured probably a 100$, or maybe a little more. And I was wondering if I should spread it around, or hunt for a killer bonus and plunk it all in one place?
Right now I'm leaning toward spreading it out over a few sites. That way if I start losing and can't get away I won't blow the whole bankroll in one sitting. Also, I wouldn't be tempted to play above my level (something I would be prone to). On the other hand though, if there is a site who's bonus is just way better than anybody elses I would probably have to go that route, just to maximize my deposit.
I guess the best question is, about how much of a bonus should I be looking for on a first time deposit? And what constitutes a killer bonus? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| | | | Remember also, that just because you put all your money in one, doesn't mean you have to play it all at once. If you use only one site, you can bring only a portion of it to a table, or mabe even enter a tournament. This will also guarantee that you don't blow it all at once.

| | | | 50 bucks aint very much at all, its like what 2hrs work if you have a crappy job on min wage.
You should read fonz's guide very helpful for new players. I would also add it is a good idea to sign up with netller and deposit like $300 then go round the poker sites which offer free deposit bonus's, these can help to build your bankroll.

they are running a business afterall - its not like casinos have 1 cent tables!
personally, if you cant afford to deposit $50 then online poker probably isnt for you. This may sound a bit harsh but if you cant afford that cash to start gambling then you probably cant afford to gamble and i wouldnt reccomend anyone gambling with money they cant afford to lose

The majority of the time the larger the bonus the longer your gonna have to be playing to work that bonus off - time which could be spent working off another deposit bonus
id personally reccomend pokerroom and party for first time depositers who are looking for a bonus - theyre both relatively easy to clear

| | | | Thx for the heads up, Fonz. I was hesitant to ask for specific sites not knowing if that was kosher or not. I'll definitely check em both out tonight. And thx also for this site too, I've had a good time being here. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
