Quiz - situational here are 5 or so situations all NL holdem- what would you do? Answers in blank sections (highlight to see)
1) 2 table sig and go. 5 players left. you hold 50% of ALL chips everone else holds about the same as each other (i.e. 1/8th of all chips). Someone goes all in under the gun. Do you call with 22? NO! AK is probably the minimum i would happily call with in this kind of situation unless blinds really high and player has been going in a lot - then AQ would be ok - and other hands at that hand grouping level. You dont need to take risks with that kind of chip lead - you should be able to win by putting players under pressure. You should be able to increase your chip stack without knocking anyone out making it more likely that you will win a higher place. If you lose it is far from certain you will finish in the money at you are probably only looking at a coin toss to win it.
2) You are playing against a very aggressive player who is able to fold if he thinks you have him beat. you hold 8s9s - he bets 100 , player x calls, you call. Flop 6h7s10h, he bets 50, player x calls what do you do? You have 1100 left, player x 1000, aggressive player 2000. Call is ok - if he holds6x,7x, 10x or Ax or kx you might win big. I would probably reraise a minimum amount. This would mean you will be less likely to split pot or lose to j+ (8or9). If you bet big you might get called if a player holds 10x with a high kicker but my own feeling is tiny raise. Make the post something they want to steal. As far as i see it fold is crazy and a big bet from here will rarely pay.
3)you hold 2k in chips at start of hand and hold AhKs you bet 100 and get 2 callers
Flop AcKc8c
you bet 300 and get 2 callers
River Jc
you bet 200 and are reraised all in and the other player calls. What do you do? FOLD FOLD FOLD - any club and your two pair is beaten by a flush - you could also be facing q10 (less likely). OK you could catch a club on the river high enough to split the pot and you could catch an a or a k to give you a full house but nothing like pot odds to keep you in pot
4) You are in a 1 table sng and everyone holds about 1000 chips, no one is out and 20 or so hands have been played. You hold 55 solid jim raises to 400 and gets 3 callers. What do you do? Fold - you can only seriously expect to win by catching trips and probably there is a higher pocket pair. Everyone could hold ak and then you would be clear favorite but that is unlikely so fold if the bet was smaller then you could legitimately call but low pairs are best seen for beginners as drawing hands
5) 400 in pot you hold AhKc two other in hand flop As10s9h. If you want to protect the hand from chasers how much do you have to bet for their chasing not to pay? Everyone holds 1000chips after flop OK Assuming someone has JsQs or another open straight + flush draw- probably the best drawing hand %wise -they will win on K, 8, and spade. 8 cards for K+8, 7 remaining = 15. 15 outs on turn is worth 56%. Anything above 50% and they have pot odds to call even if nothing is in the pot prior to your bet. So you cannnot protect the hand from all holdings. You are still very likely to be favourite and and with a lot in the pot already you would just (and I mean just) have pot odds to call against someone going all in on QsJs. I wouldnt chose to protect this hand imediately on the flop. I would check and then reraise if i was sure I wasnt facing A10 or something like that. A value bet would have to be 200+ i would think to protect the hand but all I am saying here is that you cant always protect your hands from drawers. This is quite an advanced hand and there are lots of options. How I would play it might even depend on whether this was a tourney (and if so how near the money) or a ring game.
