Default Newbie POP QUIZ

I like TRYING to know the itty-bitty, tic-tac, ins and outs of poker , and most all of the games I play/watch. So here's a question for all the newbies out there (or the more seasoned players that just might not know).-----------------Why do players place chips or card protectors on top of their hole cards during a hand?-------I do know the answer to this, and would like to see how many other people do.

is it to prevent an accidently showing of the card ? but better yet it is to let the dealer knwo that they are going to make a bid or call ?

the reason for the card protection is so that your cards don't end up in the muck. dealers are dragging chips and cards all the time and by protecting your cards you signify that you are active and these are not cards to be mucked.

safe out is right. especially in the 1st seat and 10th seat spots you must protect your hand from getting mucked by the dealer.

In case you have 4 or 5 cognac's in front of you, it lets you know which you play and which you drink....lol

Safe_out is right. I go along with that.

Safe Out is the closest so far, just keep in mind that if the dealer is raking chips and cards, then the hand is already over.

Is that a rule?? I thought only some players were doing this just because they are used to do it and they want to make sure they ALWAYS do the same thing whether or not they have a good hand. But if it has to have a meaning, I will guess it is to show that you haven't fold nor called yet and you're still in the process of making up your mind.

OK, Safe Out was the closest, with his answer being part of the reason why. A player puts a 'protector' atop their cards because in the event that the DEALER TOUCHES THEM or that ANOTHER PLAYER should toss his cards in (as in the act of folding) and those folded cards should happen to touch said, unprotected cards, then they are dead as are the cards that were tossed in that touched them. THAT is why MOST players keep either their hands, a chip, or some sort of protector on their cards.
