I recomend you get Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold'em and Every Hand Revealed by Gus Hansen. The first one will teach you all the basics and several different styles of play from conservative to med play, but Gus Hansen's book will teach you how to be an animal!!! lol

You have to read Ken Warren's first though to get the best out of them.

good luck and welcome

well the Ken's book breaks down poker into 4 basic groups and teaches you how to play each one, combined with Gus Hansen's book which I call the "Animal Cloner" will teach you in a VERY different way how to play AGGRESSIVE!!! LOL

His book is very different then most. I doesn't go A-Z about poker, but it does goes over EVERY hand he played to win a poker tournament, how much he bet, and what he was thinking when he made that bet. Its very good.

Once you've got the basics of poker down - preflop strategy, postflop betting, etc, I highly recommend

The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Poker Tells

It explains that there are different players - fish (calling station), loose agressives, rocks (really tight), and tight agressives (good players) and gives strategy for playing differently based on which type of opponent you are playing against.

It's a simple book and a good read, but only after you've learned the basics.

poker books for me is not an expense but an investment to improve your game and skills.

Zen and the Art of Poker - Insightful book on understanding your emotions in poker through Zen.
The Theory of Poker - learning fundamentals of poker
Ace on the River - Good book for aspiring poker professionals or poker enthusiasts.
