was playing Texas Holdem at a friends house last night and most have never even seen a poker match in person if not even on tv. So bear with me a minute.
We had 4 players and two folded so we were down to the river card. The hand came out like the following....
Player 1 hand: AH 7S
Player 2 hand: AS 6S
River: AD 10S KH
Turn: 9C
River: 8S
Who wins, player 1 or player 2? | | |

It's a split. Both players hands are
A-A-K-T-9

Thank you, but now how do I explain that the 7 in his hand the "kicker" card does not play in his situation? I cant explain that its the best of 5 cards no matter what, and he bucks saying that it comes down to the kicker in the hand. | | |

I would just tell him that in hold'em its your 5 best cards that are in play and the 5 best cards are A,A,K,T,9 for both of you.

lol I remember when i first started live I couldn't believe this either. Find a website with the rules displayed (or this thread even) and show him proof....thats the only thing taht convinced me. | | |

this is the sad thing though, he printed out rules somewhere on line that does read his way of thinking. Ill have to get the link and post it. Thats why I posted here, trying to get him to see this. | | |

Don't know if this will help your cause. I am a poker dealer and you split. Just like everyone said the best hand is A,A,K,T,9 and you both have the same best hand. | | |
