3 all in and chip leader took it...
Well, there's always gonna be many situations where this might be good play but I can't help but wonder if one of the smaller stacks might have been better off staying out of this one. In a 3 way fight, if I'm one of the small stacks, I'm usually hoping the other small stack will wind up facing off against the big stack (Unless my or both small stacks have gotten terminally small.) I've dropped what I knew were good cards but felt weren't winners in order to defacto beat a couple of all-inners against the big stack winner. Especially if I'm way out chipped and lucky to be moving up in payout.
Similarly, as big stack, I've called multiple 5th street callers even when I knew I was beat by 1 player. This becomes profitable when you can get enough chips over the winners take to make a profit over your loss to him. The sneaky thing about this is say he's got 4,500 and you get 3 more callers at 7,000 by the river. You lose 4,500 of your stack to him but you win 7500 off the other callers (less your 4,500 loss equals a 3,000 final profit.) This is a tricky move that requires the stars to align but when I'm pretty nicely stacked say around half to 3/4's way through a big tourney, I'm keeping an eye out for this. The slightly better situation is when there is another big stack involved who stupidly chases this 'inflated' pot. You will gain many extra chips from the side pot between you two. I love it when even though I lose to one player, I end up making a better profit off other callers lol. I get these wins online by reading this rush where players start recklessly and boastfully shoving bigger and bigger stacks at each other. You just slip in, a little less pushy with raises, like going "You guys are really annoying me but I'm not going anywhere." Suckers
