Default Flopping the nuts

Small Blind folded round to me I have A10s, I flat raise and big blind calls.

Flop comes 10 10 10

The guy has played a fairly average game, not too tight nor a maniac.

Would you bet it or check it?

I bet minimum which was perhaps 5% of his stack and he folds. I bet because I thought it was more likely to disguise the hand?

Opinions please?

Dan

He has no reason to call any bet in that hand unless he holds an Ace at the very least. I'd check it and give him a chance to either catch up or bluff.

Yeah, a hand that big is a rare and beautiful thing. The most you're gonna make is whatever he's willing to give you. Odd's are that after you gobbled up the flop, he has little reason to call even a small bet initially. But if he goes on to pair either of his cards later, he's got a full house and then there's a better chance you might get paid real money. If you get down to the river and he's still dead, then you make that 'action plz' bet with a "Hey, I'll buy it then" comment or something. "Four's good enough to take it?" - lol.

Agreed with above posters. you check all the way to the river at least. Of course if he bets on the flop and turn you want to call. On the river you always want to try to bet a bit whether it is a check and bet or a bet and raise.

You have to hope he catches a full house so you need to check to the river in order to get any real pay out.

Although I agree with what everyone is saying, I won a huge pot not long ago in a similar situation (I'l try and find the HH). I had K 10 and raised the button. BB called and flop was 10 10 10....he checked i bet pot he raised, I called. He pushed the turn and i doubled...He had 9 high. I suppose it depends on who your playing and your image at the table. (i was against an agressive player and has been caught bluffing a few times). Against your average player checking is probably your best option, though like everything in poker, its highly situational and no one method is right.

Unless (for some players) you had a decent or high pocket pair, hit a high hole card for a high boat, or thought you could make a move on a weak acting caller. But close examination of those 3 circumstances indicates situations (I suspect) which statistically will occur less than someone hitting nothing or easily foldable cards. So you have better value by not pushing for rare circumstances early in the hand.

An exception to this might be if you had multiple callers who began 'warming up' as the hand progresses. This is one of my dream situations. They get so caught up in hitting each other that you are able to just ride the action without drawing suspicion by raising. And you get to double (triple? etc) your winnings, hello! But it's also a rare thing. My main concern with quads is how do I need to be perceived in order for someone to really want to lean on me. Then, later on, the other guy is always like "Man, I can't believe you had that. You just seemed so weak." That's when I know I did the best I could (and got lucky heh.)

That hand looks terribly familiar. Might have been me.
