I think that's a pretty good post Zac Ray.

I think Mars' post was also good, and I've seen Mars play that way very succesfully. You're not both saying completely opposite things but your post has added something to the discussion I feel.

I think as you gradually climb the poker ladder you gradually move from plain solid play to your individual style. As you become a better player you begin to pick up the nuances of poker like this - when I started playing I did tons of book studying and it did jack squat past pot and implied odds D:

It's funny to note though that microlimit players at stars are much tighter and more solid than .5/1 or 1/2

For me when I enter SnG's the first thing I do in automatically fold my first couple hands. It seems in every tournament you have a couple idiots that try to go all in on the first hand and then you got the other idiots that actually call them. Just let these people get out of the way. After you have gotten through a couple hands I loosen up a little means I know the BB is still rather small and most people seem to only want to limp in. I get lucky with a couple hands at his point......After a while I get a read on the people at the table and I learn who to go up against and who to sit back and watch them destroy themselves. I usually play higher number SnG with say 50 to 100 people but one thing I have learned is as soon as you get moved to another table everything starts over. You will notice that guys that were really aggresive at your first table come to this table and try to do the same thing and get called by about 4 other people that are playing the same way. This is when I just sit back and again let them kick each other out. After you got a read on the table you can loosen back up because you already know the individuals that call everything (even 3x BB) and the ones that get scared off easily.

Doing this I have profited in 7 of the last 10 SnG's I have done.

Off topic for this thread but I think that's generally true and the 1c/2c and 2c/5c nl tables players are often tighter than the 5/10c and 10/25c nl players.
If you like to multitable then a tight-aggressive approach works well...but if you're only playing one or two tables at the lower limits then often a loose-aggressive style seems to be a profitable way to play - the tables are tight and you can raise away, steal and also get paid off when you do have a big hand - opponents get tired of your raises and play back.

I'm a very new player as well as most here know. I played my first game EVER on Christmas. Won my first game ever the day after. I've played about 7 SNG's. I've placed 1st on three of them so I think I'm doing ok. I play 50 cent ones where I win $2.50. Anyways I too notice that right off the top you'll have a few going all in. Yesterday I went all in as I had a GOOD hand (KK) 3 others went all in. Well when the dust setttled I had all their $$. Normally I would NOT go in on my 1st hand but I had a good one & did win. Anyways I play pretty tight but very agressive. Especially when I have a chip lead I'll bet for example when I'm down to the last few as high as their chip total. So if they are going to go up against me they have to go all in. Most think twice & fold or they for it. By that time if they are playing conservative the blinds will start to eat away at their chip stack so they HAVE to move with less than good hands. Anyways I've sort of taken to SNG's like a fish to water. Also I do MUCH better player the $.50 games than the freerolls. Not sure why. You might want to read Moshman's book on Sit N Go's. I bought it yesterday & I'm devouring it. I'm currently reading that & HoH Vol 1. Very similar. Good luck!!
