I found this text file someplace, but don't quite remember. Here are the top starting hands to play. Basically things in the first 4 groups would be good starting hands.

Or you can look at Mr. Moneymaker's thoughts

I like to play the top 42 hands...Well I like to at least see the flop on those hands, but if someone raises the call...then I will only call if I have one of the top 25 hands...Hope this helps...

There are also many sites were u can see the top 42 hands in poker...Try to remember them...It helps out...

I think that before you do anything you need to determine what style of play suits you......listen, some people will tell you they only play xxxx hands and then another person may tell you that they only play yyyyy hands but it doesnt really matter. That is their style, not yours. There is no ONE right way to play. Certain players are very aggressive and play very loose pre-flop cause they now they can outplay the others post flop ( i.e gus hanson and daniel negreanu), while others are very tight pre-flop cause they want to minimize the tough decisions they have to make ( i.e Dan harrington and david sklansky). That being said, you generally want to play tight until you become more experienced. But, what I suggest you do, is go out and buy SuperSystem ( By Brunson) and also go buy any book written by sklansky and see what style works best for you ( do it on cheap tables though, lol). Brunson will give you perspective from a very aggressive player and sklansky will give you perspective from a very tight player....the just play.....lots.......and lots more. Poker is just like anything else in life, you got to practice and put your hours in if want to do any good.....but I think milkman's requirements will go you just fine while you start out.

A good strategy is always getting to the flop as cheapest as possible. Preflop raises with high cards is also a good strat. Preflop raising discourages weaker hands from seeing the flop. Any hand can win. Ive seen AK be beaten by 27.

I like to play any hand.. if its cheap just call you never know if you hit something spectacular on the flop. Usually suit'd items and connecting items are good to just see. Pockets are good to flop on too :P

I disagree with some of the statements other have made. Tight is right. Your chips will slowly erode if you keep "limping in"(trying to see the flop cheaply by just calling). However, the more you play, the better feel for the game you get. Sometimes it is correct to play hands that are not great if you know you can bluff or semi-bluff your opponents out of the pot.
