| | | | Someone who is very new to Poker Hi,
I've started playing NL Texas Hold em with a group of friends (I live in Germany) and neither I nor any of them have a firm grasp on everything (and there is ALOT). This is how we've been playing:
Everyone gets €5 (about $6) in chips
4 people:
P1 deals
P2 pays SB (5 cents)
P3 pays BB (10 cents)
P4 to stay in matches BB
P1 same as P4
P2 also matches
Questions:
1. If P4 raises (what is the minimum raise?), and everyone calls except P3, who raises again, can P4 re-raise?
2. We usually play until one person doesn't have any chips left, then do a payout to everyone so no one has to be a spectator for the rest of the game. Is this common, or should we play it completely out?
Other questions:
I've read some terms here that I'm not familiar with and after using the search function (even wikipedia) I didn't find much help. I was hoping you guys could help me out:
Heads Up?
Coin Flop?
Sit n Go (SNG)? I know it's a form of online poker, but what does it mean?
Open ended straight
Gutshot straight
One more: If I go all in and another goes all in with me, does the Flop, Turn and River still get turned over, or is it over right there?
Thanks for the help!!

| | | | 1. P4 can't raise there, they have already acted. The minimum raise is .10 raising the bet to .20 total.
2. I do not have an answer for you.
Heads Up, only two players.
Coin Flop, the chance to win is close, most people consider this to be the chance for each hand to win being within 10%. Such as: AK vs 55.
Sit n Go (SNG) a limited number of players play a tournament format, typically 9 or 10.
Open ended straight, would be you have TJ and the flop is 8 9 Q. You can get either a high card (K) or low card (7) to make your straight.
Gutshot straight means you need an inside card to fill out your straight, like TJ with a flop of 7 9 K. In this case, you need the 8 to make your straight.

Actually at that flop you have already made your straight and it's complete, you dont need any more cards.
An open ended straight draw is often said and that means if you have 56 and the the flop is 34Q you have an open ended straight draw which means you can complete your straight in both ends a 7 or a duece.

| Ok, if P4 didn't call but raised instead, and P3 raised again, can P4 re-raise? I thought that only one raise per round was allowed.
Thanks on all the other help to both of you!!

| | | | DJ, you are right, change the 8 to a 6.
Aaron, the typical rule for fixed limit is 5 bets total per round. so P4 raises to .20, P3 reraises to .30, P4 can then cap it to .40.

Thanks Adaon. We usually play no limit, so one could raise as often as one likes then? What about when someone calls? Can you re-raise yourself?
Sorry if the questions are easy, but I am still learning.

| | | | In no limit, there is truely no limit in how much someone can raise.
The minimum raise is the amount of the first raise.
So P4 can raise anything, but the minimum would be a raise of .10 (because that is the size of the blinds). Let's say instead he raises 3 times the big blind to .30. To the big blind player, that is a raise of .20 (they already put .10 in for the blind).
I would suggest playing some online no limit, even play chips to help you get used to how the game is played. Nothing can replace experince for learning this.

Sorry if the questions are easy, but I am still learning. | Example 1:
You raise.
The raise is called.
It is then the end of that round of betting. You cannot make any further raises until the next round.
Example 2:
You raise.
A player re-raises.
You can make a further raise.

| | | | Ah, ok.
I was reading about the Freeroll games here (which from reading are alot better/more realistic than other online games. What does freeroll actually mean? Is it that you play for free with chips, but I don't need to make a deposit?
I would definately love to get involved in that. The games we play are few and far between. Any playing is welcome during the dry spell.

| | | | A freeroll is just a multitable tournament with no entry fee. The small prizes are real dollars.
Freerolls are good practice (be aware that the standard of play is sometimes erratic) They can be a good way of building yourself a bankroll without risking any money.
There are some freerolls organised this month on Third Bullet Poker through our sister site Freerollforums
You can sign up through the Third Bullet link here Third Bullet $100 January Freerolls
Most Poker Rooms have some kind of freeroll set up. You could check out the Freeroll Discussion threads in both texasholdemforums and freerollforums.
