A couple years ago I was playing the $20, 10 seat SNGs on Party and doing well. Now I'm playing $10, 9 seat on Stars and it seems that the level today at 10 is much higher than it was then at 20.

I tend to do worse at anything below $10. I get into situations wher I'll think, "there's no way this guy called my raise of 5x with 78s". My aces will get cracked by some BS and I'll go on tilt the rest of the day. At least now when my aces get cracked its by something respectable...

I've been playing a lot of free sng's. Winning consistently but when I've tried playing like the $1 or $.50 sng's I can't win. So far only played about 3 or 4. When I lose I got back & don't try again till I win 3 free games. Would it be better to jump UP & play the games above $3 & simply stay there? In other words keep playing with better players or to simply work your way up with the erratic crazy low $$ games? I asked this before on another post & got variying answers.

$10: Skill level of each player is either slightly higher than a $5 regular, or around the level of a $1-3 player. This is because you have donks who decide to put $200 on a poker site, and while they don't know how to play poker for their life, decide that $10 is the best place to play, as they aren't losing much (to them), and are able to get a decent profit if and when they cash (whereas $1 SnGs give you a $4 profit, IF you get 1st).
$15+: Level of play just goes up and up from here, although from time to time you will get the retard who just won big in a $1 MTT, or placed in a sattelite and thinks their good enough to play high levels.

this is the truest i have ever heard but when you are at the big tables and you get the retard you hate them at first till you have all their money

stick with the small until built cause you would be surprized to know how you will not win at the others and they most like have a bigger bankroll and can challenge you more and not make it easy as the tables you are playing now

Well I was disciplined enough to do what I said in my last post here. I went back & played more freerolls then went back to the $.50 SNG's. I have won 3 of them for a whopping $7.50!! I was pretty excited my first one I won. Pretty cool. I think i'll sit around & when I get my bankroll up to $100 move up the $1 games.

I am trying to play 6 seat tables and i found some places which pays 3 for 6 seat. That means %50 chance anyway and mostly i win but i dont want to risk multi tables much because they look hard for me and risky much

So what is the best strategy for the low level s&g's? I've tried the tight aggressive but get called by three players and some hits. I've tried real tight but get bumped just before the money. I hate playing loose because I'm just throwing money away. This game kills me.

I think just before the money is probably the hardest part of these. I'd say the key is learning to weigh stacks, remaining players, blind sizes, table speed, etc, at various stages of the tourney to know where your stack needs to be. If you are bubbling out just before the money, bravo! You are only a few tweaks away from being in the money! That means you are accomplished enough to perform consistently, which is a big deal since it's all about getting the best of statistics in the long run. Now you need to learn to loosen up slightly, often acting with some aggression, just prior to the remaining shorter stacks getting squirrelly and active. I prefer to be in the top 3 stacks, free to leverage bets against smaller stacks who are trying to stay level with the other stacks their size. Or to sit out a bit if I'm running cold. When I come in (with whatever,) I get respect.

For what it's worth, I have a small guide posted here.. http://www.texasholdemforums.com/beg...ker-guide.html (Zac's beginner's no limit tourney poker guide)
