Default What do you call this?

Two of you see the flop. You're the button and you have 78o.

The flop copes 569 rainbow. You judge the other guy is a straight arrow who doesn't bluff enough.

He checks. You check, hoping he's got an A or K but no pair.

The turn is A. He bets hard. You raise him.

This is not a standard checkraise, but it is sort of a checkraise. What name has been given to it, or, if you don't know of one, what name shall *we* give it?

If this thread belongs in Advice & Strategy feel free to move it.

It is not a checkraise - just a raise you slow play the straight and have laid a trap which he has just fell into.

Unless he has A and 5,6,7,8,9 he will be drawing dead and then he needs to catch on river either for a split pot or full house.

If A 5,6 or 9 (assuming no flush possibility) he needs to catch a 5, 6, 9 or ace to beat you 4 outs - (2 aces and 2 of either 5, 6 or 9)

If A 7 or 8 he needs to catch either 7 or 8 to split pot with you on straight, 2 outs. (either one of the 2 remaining 7 or 8)

but if he was trying to slow play you with trips

55, 66, 99

he has raised big as he is worried you have A x (see previous post)

you say he doesn't bluff much so therefore he may be REAL tight and limp in with low PP hit his trips and slow play them, again you have him beat - unless board pairs - so 10 outs - (3 aces 1 card of trips and 2 x 3 of other cards)

Thanks, guys. I like the term "stop and go", although the small number of online poker glossaries I've checked don't list it.
