I stand corrected. Really, all sites should modify their software to permit that.

Wink Knowledgable and Insightful

The reply you sent was great! Very knowledgable and insightful. I especially like the part where you say:

My rule is that there are no friends at the table. Taking it easy on a fellow player because you like him/her is a bad idea, and actively teaming up with that player to disadvantage other players will get you disciplined by most sites--and, IMO, is morally wrong. Poker is an individual, not a team, game. When it comes to the actual play, everyone at the table is your enemy.

Its true, there are no friends at a poker table. And u need to leave all the rest at the door. Once you sit down at that table, its every man for himself. Sounds ruthless I know but with the little I've learned, this is one rule I learned fast..
I'm tying to find a weekly tournament to get into but nobody seems to be willing to let a new person into their games. Its like they don't want to give a new person opportunity to win their money. But I guess when you have something good going, you dont want someone coming in and That is why I have decided to try the internet. Where can I go to see games or even play for free? And not sell my soul to play...

Um, well pretty well anywhere actually. The majority of sites have play chip tables.

When you want to go for some real money, most sites also provide some sort of freeroll tournaments with (usually) small cash prizes for the top place finishers.

But be careful with freerolls. Read the cashout terms and conditions very carefully. (Not all sites make finding these easy!) You may have to either play a large number of cash games in order to be able to cash out. You have to make a deposit before you cash out. You may have to do both.

When selecting a freeroll also be careful. The big sites have many thousands of entries, so your chances of winning, or even winning enough to be useful (10 cents is no use if the minimum buy in to a ring game or tourney is much more than that); and the tourneys take anything up to 5 or 6 hours to play. So sticking with smaller sites gives you a better chance of winning, with a lot less effort. BUT, in the current political climate, smaller sites are more vulnerable to closure, which usually means bye bye winnings. A lot of us have been stung this way, but so long as the sums involved are small, it is not that big a deal. So don't keep too much on line at once.

also programs like poker tracker or poker office help a lot. I use poker office and love it, instead of buying it you can get a free registry key through some sites. If you plan on playing for ahwile you should really check these out.

this link will tell you more about poker office and what sites you can join to get a free license

This is great advice as online and live play are very different, mainly as online players are looser than in live games. Freerolls let you experience the loosest playing around as do $1-$5 SnG's. When you can learn to beat bad players (the ones that win when they get lucky on the last card) and crucially avoid losing lots of chips to them then things should be fairly plain sailing on buiding a steady bankroll.

I know it may sound odd about bad players, but since there are plenty of them sitting at most tables there are times where skilled play get beaten by luck multiple times beating established poker odds so you need to learn the warning signs which over time you'll notice bad players replicate similar plays and in the long run will protect your profit.

On the flipside, your biggest wins will also come from these same players as often they don't realise when they are beaten when they have a good hand but simply don't take enough notice of the cards on the table and how they may help you.
