| | | | i play them aggresively but i dont push all in on the flop unless i have a raise and a reraise in front of me. or just one really big raise. cause then i know even if they fold im getting a lot of chips. but i will nver slow playaces. i refuse. and thats only my opinion, but if you slow play them and get outdrawn. DO NOT COMPLAIN, its your own fault for etting em get there for nothing. | |

| | | | i myself have been known to slow play aces or kings but i always give a big bet in the start that i have learned the hard way if you just call then someone with say for instance wit 9 10 catches a straight well is you raise in the beginning 9 times out of 10 those people with not so good of hands will fold | |

| | | | I usually call 3xBB off the preflop to get rid of most of the other hands. After that I base it off the flop. If the flop hits and I can see a possibility of them getting connecters or say 2 of the 3 cards are suited then I will throw out a real high bet because I want them to second guess about chasing the straight or flush.
If I hit another A on the flop then I really slow down because I basically know I am going to win the hand. If I am playing against someone that is really aggresive I will usually check down to the river and then either raise what they bet (for some reason people think if they throw chips out at the end then no one will call) or if I am first to bet I will just bet the pot. The reason I do this is because if you go all in then they know you have something and will just fold. If you just call whats in the pot you have a better chance of getting them to call or rereaise because they think there pair of 7s will work.

| | | | Not particularly answering the question in the first post, but you really shouldn't slow play AA. One example I had yesterday:
Turbo 9-man SNG. We are about half-way through and blinds are 100/200. There are probably 6 players left and I'm in SB with a moderate stack (maybe 2000) with K2s. Action is folded to cutoff, who limps with AA. Button folds and I complete to see a cheap flop with a suited king. Flop comes KKx. I check raise the AA player, who goes all-in after my raise, which I obviously call. He is way far behind and ends up getting knocked out. I actually turned a 2 for a full house.
If he had even made a min raise preflop, I was gone and he'd pick up the blinds, which at this point is decent since the stacks are low and blinds are rising fast.
Moral of the story, don't slowplay aces. You only give your opponents more chances to make a better hand than yours.

| | | | See thats where the big raise off the preflop comes into play. If you would of stayed in after that and those 2 kings feel I prob wouldnt place you with a K. I would think you are holding Qx or a decent pair yourself. Then again maybe thats a flaw in my game that I need to work on. | |

| | | | Here's what can happen if you slow play your aces. This was early in a tournament and even though the guy raised with pocket aces his raise of only 30 allowed me to get 9 to 1 on the 30 I had to call. Fact of the matter is if he goes all in or made a pot sized bet I would have folded my pocket 3's. I guess my point is I don't like to slow play aces unles I am short stacked and I need to get some action to increase my chip stack.

| | | | As the top players say, you should not slow play just bcause you have a big, you should have other very specific reasons, position, read etc. So yeah I agree with you, it's not something to do normally and this guy was failing to get you out of the hand. That said, I wouldn't have played 33 except in late position, but that is just me. | |

| | | | I agree with racingdog there for the most part. Pocket As I believe win just under 80% preflop hands even with another pocket pair out there.
You had some great luck and remember in the long run the odds do even out. So beware of that in the future wisak7 and take care.
Nice hand thou QUAD 3S! Quads don't happen to often so congrands there.

| | | | Cow, mate, the 80+% is only heads up, the % drops dramatically the more people are involved. It'll never happen, but if 10 hands all played, the % drops right down to 31 and a bit %. But basically that is why most people think aces get cracked more than they expect, because most times the 80+% is not appropriate. | |

| | | | I don't play them soft (good size bet) but also i don't go all in unless I'm short stacked. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
