Yeah, I bet it 200 PF as well. He might leave the hand because 4x the BB looks like a normal bet where as 3x looks like a weak hand steal. Other than that its hard to play it differently. Folding the river needs to be thought about because he could have the nine, but he would call with a seven as well and that hit the turn. The only hands you could beat that he would realistically call with are a pocket pair lower than yours that didnt hit and two overcards. With blinds low and a seemingly weak tbale you could have fought back to get in it.

Does check call the river mean to call the all in?

Yeah, definitely too light preflop, but if he called 200 preflop, I think 300 on the flop looks too much like a c-bet, so yeah I think maybe a bit more there to.
(purely in retrospect) a higher bet on the flop would have done no good as he had made his set of 9s... (f'in donk to call ANY raise prelop with 94o! IMO, but hey... u run into them)

BUT

with 2 pair on the board 9s & 7s, I think Id have layed it to any bet on the river... he could have called your small preflop raise with A9, K9s, A7s, 77, any number of hands that have you whacked....
Personally, I will firstly assume my opponent isnt bluffing (unless he has shown otherwise) and ask, given the hand play so far, what could he possibly have to move in with?
checked turn -> raise allin on the river would smell bad to me, especially against the table chip leader! (though I'd probably put him on trip 7s not 9s... either way same result) Had you been about equal in stacks I might have thought it was a bluff... (and so been busted)
Hell, had he bet the turn I would have probably mucked... (which is probably why he checked it there, possibly hoping you would bet into him)

Once, early in a MTT I layed bottom set (4s) to an allin raise over my 3/4 pot bet on the flop (and not a paired flop)...
Shades, who was watchin, responded with OMG!!!!!!! when I told him...
But thats a slightly different situation, early MTT... Early on I am loathe to risk my tounament with anything but the nuts...

Shades is dead right though... thats a tough spot... Easier to analyze in retrospect...

Not really......... But a majority of the people would. By checking, your hoping he tries a value bet instead of pushing all-in..... In that case you can call a smaller bet rather than the all-in..... By betting the $600 you committed yourself anyway and had to call the all-in...

If you check and he pushes all-in ($1380) now its up to your reads of this opponent on wether to call or not...... As I said, most peole call it anyway but its a little easier to get away from.

when I say check call the river, that is to reasonable bets. you cannot call an all-in. i would tend to call 600-700 or less.
