Default Middle Pocket Pairs

How much do you guys value hands like 99 and 1010 because I just bet them really strong and have gotten burned by AA three tournaments in a row....

It's very situational.

Early on (blinds of 10-20 up to 50-100) i will limp in with them from any position. I will also call a standard raise. I am looking to flop a set cheaply, or see a flop of undercards or get out. Blinds are small so its not worth getting too invested with these hands early on.

When blinds increase a bit i will start raising with them from middle to late position and limping from early. Mixing it up occasionly to remain unpredictable. I will often bet the flop strongly, and continue to show agression throughout the hand, especially on a favourable flop (such as all undercards or just one overcard). I will also sometimes bet a very dangerous overcard connected flop to represent something bigger, and then get out if my oppenent shows strength.

Never fall in love with these hands though when overcards (or even undercards if you called a raise) are on the board. You need to be very controlled with your agression and know when to get out.

Hope this helped somewhat

Agree with JayC's post.

Ring games v Tourneys make a difference as of course does table size and stack
sizes.

I tend to treat TT a bit differently than 99. It is a stronger hand.

I may raise strongly to cut down the field. Behind a raise it's much easier to represent a flop when you miss.
