If you are playing SnGs rather than ring, use a similar figure, 5% of BR as your max.

For MTTs make it even lower. Which is why I prefer SnGs. If I had loadsa money and could afford a big deposit then I would play more MTTs. But when you build up from scratch (i.e. freerolls) you need to earn a lot before you can afford these as your regular format. It is a basic mistake just to move from FRs to buy in MTTs because they are the same format, MTTs. You have to come back to buy in MTTs later when you have built up more of a stack by playing up FR winnings in SnGs or ring. Of course if you get lucky and get a large FR cash then you are ok to go straight in to buy in MTTs.
