Default Re-buy Strategy

My biggest weakness right now in poker is the re-buy tournament. Well, that and AQ. DAMN THAT FRIGGIN HAND!!!!

Anyway, normally it's easy to simply avoid re-buys since I suck at them but I want to work on them. My friends have a lot of re-buy super satellites to a WSOP Main Event series here in town and $30 is a lot easier to explain to the wife than $150.

There's not a lot of reading out there that I've come across. My current theory is pretty simple. Early I play fairly loose and aggressive to build a strong chip stack with the re-buy as a safety net. If I re-buy I'm no worse than if I played tight and folded down. After the re-buy period's over tighten up and play my normal game.

That's about the extent of it. It's not working so the alternative seems that tightening up early is the way to go but the idea of all these stacks building up around me isn't enticing. I don't want to play catch up if I don't have to.

What do you think?

The best rebuy strategy is to dump a lot of chips. Someone like Negranu will drop anywhere from 30-50 rebuys in to a tournament so that there are a ton of chips in play at his table. The goal is then to win up most if not all of those chips and have a big stack the rest of the tournament.

If you don't want to aggressively rebuy, your best strategy is to actually tighten up. Wait for people to shove chips out when you have a good hand and then put your chips in. Ideally you get your money in with a good hand while they have a weak hand and then win the money.

In a rebuy I play tight pushing all-in with a good hand and use the rebuy as a safety net in case my hand gets beat. I like the idea of everyone else donating to the prize pool I get a chance to win with as little donation from me as possible. I also limit how many I will rebuy.

It depends on your table....at many tables...there are no good hands....one goes in and 3, 4 or 5 follow and luck wins, Aces get cracked more than nut shells!

When u play a rebuy tournament i always like to start with the maximum chips, so do an add-on right when the tourny starts. This way its like quadrupling up if u win your all in hand , but if u dont do an add on and u double up on your all in u simply double up, 2,000 to 4000, instead of 4,000 to 8,000. This ones for u crapshoot. <(@v@)>

I don't double up unless it's in the last 5 minutes...I want to be loose on my all-in calls when there are 4,5 and 6 in...and try to get lucky. It then only cost one re-buy if I lose...And if I win then I get 4,5 or 6 times my stack.
