Here are what I think are important factors to consider when playing AA:
1. Reading Skills - Can you make a read on your opponents on what kind of cards they have?
2. Position On The Table - What position are you in or your opponents in that play, what kind of cards do they play in those positions?
3. Limp in or Raise Pocket AA Preflop - when is the time to Limp in?
4. Raising AA - When raising pocket AA how much to Raise?
5. What kind of players am I playing against? Are they donkeys or sharks or both?
The thing about pocket AA, that have 80% to win preflop, is if its heads up, that you really do want a good read on your opponent. If you just limp in with AA and everyone calls to see a flop, your probably in most trouble there because you don't get a lot of information preflop on your opponents. So the best thing to do is to raise with AA preflop. You could limp in with pocket AA preflop if your on a table with aggressive players that are raising almost every hand. That way you can reraise, or reraise all in when someone raises your call. But any good player that notices a limp, reraise preflop after they have raised are probably going to fold right there putting you on Pocket AA. this is good if you want to take down the pot on the spot. Its a good way to race pocket AA if thats what you want to do with it preflop expecting a raise and someone calls your reraise but this is really a gamble and your still going to find your pocket AA cracked from time to time doing this.
Best thing to do is to Raise preflop with them but the question is how much. Well if your small balling Raise 3x the Big Blind preflop, this is if your first to act like UTG. With 2 or more limpers in front of you, you really want to raise more, so raise it 5x the Big Blind. Daniel Negreanu says if your small balling, raise it 3x or 5x, if your hard balling raise 5x or 8x. Just minimum raising preflop gets you into trouble most of the time so I wouldn't recommend that. There are times when you can do minimum raises, but its best not too unless you know what your doing. Now if someone has already raised in front of you you can decided to reraise again or just call, depending on weither or not you want to race it or see a flop. Now the best way to win with pocket AA is to see a flop, then maybe a turn and a river so you know wheither or not you are 100% to win.
I'm sure you would rather know if your 100% to win with pocket AA than 80%/20% so this is why you should raise with them/call a raise with them and see a flop. Now the next thing to do is question is this player who raised with a hand that I'm playing pocket AA with a good player or a donkey. The thing is donkeys most of the time are a gamble, but good players you can have an idea of what kind of hands they are playing with before you even see a flop. Information is what you are after, this is why you raise preflop with AA. From there onwards I don't know what else to say other than work on your reading skills and remember what hands people play when they raise with them preflop. |
