Personal goals

my personal goal is to fold a good hand when you know you been beat. example like when you know when someone got a three of a kind or a straight on your pocket aces. when then bet I think it a bluff but deep down I know there they got something but I still call every time!!!!!

Dose any one else have this problem?

Kinda, I'm just in the process of learning to go with whatever my first thought is......as I've discovered that I only tend to get my reads wrong when I start to second guess myself.......If your 1st thought is.....I'll raise with AQs but if some one goes all-in pre-flop after or before my raise I won't call it......then don't if there is one.

When you decide to go with your second/third or fourth thought you are now in the realms of gambling IMO and are no longer using the skills you have leaned from poker.......trust me if it's your first thought then it's probably the right one......learning to go with it however is a completly different kettle of the 'ole fish if you ask me.

AQ is one of the hardest hands to play for me..its kinda right up there with JJ.. I can raise with it but as soon as a K hits the flop you know you are probulary beat. This is a discussion I would like to see brought up here on the forum...lots of diffrent opinions..ideas..a real discussion.
Hmmmm Personal goal for me pertaining ONLY to poker is..I need to stop chasing that Royal Flush...gets me everytime

If a K hits you may be beat, but its also a good way to steal a hand fom the AJ
Depending on the size of your stack its worth the gamble occasionally.

My personal goal is to beat KQ with A10,but its rare when that happens
Pet peeve:Im always drawn to A9 for some reason,I need to stop playing it.

I have that as well. The problem is when things are going bad I tend to think that way more.I dontt know if its that I know,or that I become simply pessimistic.
But a good bluffer will make you think they caught every time something hits they believe will beat your hand.
On the other side of that a good sloplay can turn the tables in your favor and make the table think twice before they try it.

I used to think that the key to the next level in poker (beyond the odds) is being able to make correct reads and understanding tells. That may well be but now I believe the key to the next level is being able to get out of a hand.

If you can't (which I have a hard time) walk away from AA when the board is suited or straightening or you're being reraised vs a set, you can't take the game to the next level.

In other words, I think that sometimes the best poker players are the best folders.

That's what I'm talking about. There's been hands that if I did fold... knowing that I was beat, the next few hands were good and won but now I was low on chips so I didn't prosper from those hands which I think in most tournaments would be the turning point of the game. This has happened more than once.

There's other things I need to work on that's the biggest one besides patients does anyone else feel my pain

That's where the 'playing the player' bit comes in. Which is where you evaluate the quality of the player before making moves or calling a raise.

When not in hands, work out the players who play lots of hands but fold to bets, ones that play few hands but win them etc. See how someone bets on a scary board and how the opponent reacts. You are looking for their patterns in common situations.

Once you've figured some of the obove you can use betting to establish the quality of your hands versus different players, and crucially use betting to build pots and steal under the right conditions.

Put a post-it-note on your monitor with notes on your weaknesses to remind you when situations come up that you mostly lose but can't let go.
EG.
1) Fold JJ when overcards are on the board and you are bet into.
2) Stop chasing straights and flushes against big bets.
3) Don't always call an all in with medium pocket pairs.

Unfortunately all the above comes at the price of taking the fun element of the game where you really need to focus on what happening, and not just when you are in a hand. But if you losing money overall then this is what you need to do to turn things around.
