| MTT on Pokerstars. Advice & Strategy |

| | | | MTT on Pokerstars. I'm convinced good players cannot win a $3 $5 or $10 MTT tourney on pokerstars. They are just so riddled with retards. I am so tired of betting Ak 3-4 x BB. then have the flop come K-8-2. Bet the pot and the guy holding 8-5 calls it. Turn comes A. Put him all in and he calls it. Then you know what happens next.
In a tourney with 1000 people thier is no way 30 people should double up after the first hand. Then after the second hand 20 people have 4500-6000 chips. Now you got like 50 idiots with big stacks and the carnage begins.
Has anybody here figured out a strategy on how to beat these tourney's?

| | | | Yeh, early on 3x bb simply isn't big enough. I play raise BIG or fold for the first hour - so if I hold JJ or better, I don't make it 3x bb, as that's only going to be 1/20th of some donkey's stack. I'll make it 10+x the bb, you'd be amazed at how you still get callers.

| | | | Ive tried that as well. got a little tired of puting in 25% of my chips with A-K and flopping 2-2-9. and the dumb ass that called me with 9-2 gets even fatter. Even worse when ya got K's, then he takes all your chips. | |

| | | | Now, I've never played there, but I know it is big, and I know it's famous. Is that not going to attract the "look at me, I must be good, I play on the famous site where the big boys play, they even sponsor events I see on TV" brigade? Or to use a technical term, idiots.
I think this must be true because the scenario you describe is just like a freeroll on a smaller site. The only difference is that people with money, but no sense, won't need to play freerolls, but will gravitate to famous sites for the reasons above.
Meanwhile, there are many sites out there that are struggling to survive, crying out for support. And their cheap MTTs tend to be a very good quality of play. There are still some idiots, they pay for us after all, but not so many that the minefield can't be threaded.
So come on all you people who agree with eckfreak00 about the level of play at PS. Help keep other sites alive. They need you. Pokerstars doesn't. And if you want a decent game you need them too.
So in a Xmassy vein,,,,,,Come All Ye Faithful,,,,,,,come to a smaller site!

| | | | If there are 1,000 players in the tournament, that means there are 1,5 million chips in play. If someone has just 6k of the 1,5 Million after 2 hands that doesn't mean he will win the tournament.
Don't go crazy, don't try to force anything, just build your stack slowly. And don't look at the chipleaders. It's a psychological thing if you keep looking at the chipleaders and the average stack. Just play good and eventually your results will be better.

| | | | If youre game is good enough youll get there. If you get beat by an idiot you get beat, but thats the same place youll get your chips. If you dont want to risk losing all your chips on a hand, dont go all in.It was an absolutely horrible call and I have no clue why he did it unless it was a 1 2 or 3 dollar mtt.Always remember stars MTTs are a marathon, not a sprint and early leaders tend to dissapear.
P.SMars,I love when people that play the way you explained sit at my table.

| | | | It has gotten extremely hard to win small buy-in MTTs on PokerStars (at least NL Holdem) because for one, there are just so many entrants. Yes, the quality of skill of each player is usually low, but it is very hard to weave through such a large field. I've only won one large tournament (well two if you count a $.10 turbo that I screwed around in and happened to win). It was a $3 buy-in with nearly 2000 entrants over a year ago. Since then, I haven't come close that many times, and have yet to win another.
I'm a firm believer in what xtra said, if you have a good enough game, you'll get a win. But I consider my game to be fairly good yet I've never even made a final table in a rebuy game, which is nearly all I play nowadays on PokerStars. I've made the money a good number of times and have gotten close a few times, but I have not yet made that final table. Anyways, I guess it will come eventually if I keep at it and improving my game.
But to solve your problem eckfreak, I'd suggest a couple of things. First, try some of the fairly new tournaments at PokerStars that has a max number of entrants, like I think they have a $9.90 300 max entrant tournament. Also, try some of the off-hour tourneys that have less entrants, or check out some of the other games. I've found that the $10-$30 stud (not hi/low, but that's my preference) are ridiculously easy to do well in. And one last thing, usually the non-20% payouts tourneys, like most of the $10 NLHE and up have less fish. Most bad players are looking for the 20% payouts to make it easier to get some money. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread
