I was also initially dissapointed with the freeroll nerfing but there are so many freeroll sites out there.. Granted that takes more legwork but the different tourney structures really force you to learn to adapt. I'd say that is a great skill to learn. I didn't start to have much success (other than occasionally bubbling) until one fateful night. Immediately after the tourney started, my wife wanted to go eat. We went to Sonic and when we got back, I hit big in a few hands. I had to, not only cause of my low chip stack but because I had to turn around and go to Wal Mart. ><..... Arriving back at the house, I repeated and hit big again. Then my 3 yr old freaked and I had to watch 30 minutes worth of cartoons. No kidding. I went on to money that tourney. Lesson learned? Ignore the maniacs at first unless you have AA or KK and great position. Starting chip size and slow blind levels give you plenty of time to wait for good hands and a thinning out of idiot's bad beats. Now I have a thourough idea of where I need to be chip-wise at all stages of the tourney and I realize I was playing way too fast. |
